HOW TO READ YOUR METER
Water meters are precision instruments built to accurately measure both large and small amounts of water for many years. Here is a residential water meter.

Leak Detector:
A dial that rotates, even with very small amounts of water moving through the meter. If the dial turns when all water is off inside and outside of the house, you have a leak that should be investigated further. You may wish to contact a professional to help you find "mystery" leaks.

The Register:
Just like the mileage odometer on your car, these numbers keep a running total of all water that has passed through the meter since it was new. Only read the highlighted dials to get the current reading. Subtract the last read from the current read to get your usage in cubic feet. Usage is tabulated in units. 1 unit is equal to 748 gallons.
