ABOUT / DISTRICT PROJECTS
Newhall County Water District is involved in a number of ongoing projects througout the year to ensure our facilities operate safety and customers receive reliable water service.
|
Pipeline Replacement Program
As part of the District's Capital Improvement Program, a pipeline replacement program has been established. The District budgets for replacing pipeline based on age and maintenance frequency.

Current Projects
*Newhall Insertion Valve Project
Four broken valves in the Newhall area will be replaced with insertion valves. By replacing these broken valves, NCWD will be able to isolate leaks easier and minimize water service interruption to fewer customers.
|

Maintenance Program
Every year the District operates and maintains its Water Storage Tank's Seismic Control valves. Seismic Control valves are installed at water storage tanks to help reduce the amount of water loss through broken piping after a major earthquake. The valves are designed to automatically close based on predetermined earthquake magnitude levels. In order to ensure that the valves are operating correctly, NCWD Maintenance Crews perform routine maintenance on these valves.

Meter Changeout Program
Water meters are the last connection between the District and the customer. As with everything, water meters have a certain operating life. In order to reduce interruptions in service and maintain accurate meter reads the District has implemented a Meter Changeout Program. Meters are replaced based on age and usage volumes, with adequate notification to the customer to minimize any inconvenience.

Technology Program
The District has invested in strategic technology to improve operational efficiencies, enhance customer service, and increase reliability. These program include Geographic Information Systems, SCADA, and Asset Management. The District's GIS is accessible to the entire staff to assist with customer inquiries, construction projects, facility information, as well as other research and reporting features. The Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition system allows remote monitoring of District facilities and provides instant operational data such as tank levels, flow rates, disinfection parameters, pressures, among other features. In order to properly maintain the District's infrastructure an Asset Management Program has been implemented. This program allows the District to assign routine preventative maintenance tasks, track the condition of critical assests, and generate detailed reports.

Previous Projects
A 50+year old 6" steel pipeline was replaced with a more durable 12" ductile iron pipe along Wildwood Canyon Road in Newhall.

*Upgraded disinfection system at Pinetree Pressure Regulation Station
Upgrades to the disinfection system include above ground piping with inline static mixer and injection. These additions provide reduced maintenance and easier access to components.
